Editor,

Aboriginal water rights predate the United States of America and Time Immemorial water rights predate the dinosaurs. Exactly how can the current governor and legislators of Montana grant this condition to a small 5,000 member ethnically similar group of people, over the rights of 350,000 other state citizens and residents? How can this act of illegal insanity be considered right and proper and wonderful?

By what rule of law, can our state government act to perform this magnificent, in-perpetuity theft? Why is no one concerned? Is everyone really sitting by waiting for someone else to file a court case to stop it? Maybe it’s up to U.S. to stop this before it requires a multitude of court cases.

How about someone show me where it clearly states in the Compact that the tribes have to spend the states’ $55 million contributional bribe to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes on Flathead Irrigation and power project improvements? That’s because it’s not there. Nothing is in that compact, beyond a land and water theft with no comparative example — no precedent worthy of discussion.

Why, exactly, did our previous attorney (now Governor) Steve Bullock, agree to the terms of negotiation demanded by the CSKT for their federal reserved water rights? The only negotiation for our shared waters was how more the state would offer the CSKT. Ever wonder why? Me too. No answers, just intimidation and lies during public meeting questions. Bullying is now a no-no, so the commission is now resorting to double-speak and ignoring the question. Gee, I wonder why?
