Editor,
To the Indians of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes who signed the petitions: as membership, we are ready for round three of getting signatures, so if you want change, tell everyone you know to get out and sign the petitions so no one is left out. So, is the dam buy-back what we want? And what are we as a tribe going to get? Or have we seen a new budget/resolution made with the per caps doubled and tripled to say why we would be building another casino with tribal members' money? In a place that has no real attractions but to wildlife? All this talk again, but nothing in writing. But one thing for sure: the Salazar money has not been spent. The council says this in the minutes, so if any of you who really want a say to what goes on and the right to vote on the dam, get out and sign the petitions that give you, as a member of this tribe, the right according to our constitution. And where is the $79 million that was put into the recapture fund? And why haven’t Energy Keepers written what we the members are going to get if we do take back the dam? As members of the tribe, we need to have a say as to where the money will go. And we need to be a part of that resolution that puts a real high percentage of the gross income, or new lease that is put into place, so that we the members are all equal partners that get a large payment once, twice, three times a year.
We the membership are close to our goal of the 2,000 signatures. We need to put a halt to resolutions 12-70,12-221, 12-228, 13-039 and all resolutions pertaining to the Salazar proceeds and resolutions 86-02, 13-99, 13-248 and all resolutions pertaining to the Kerr Dam — 100 percent payout with no withholding of the Salazar money — and the same for the $79 million that is in safe keeping for the Kerr Dam buy back funds.
