Judge James A. Manley dealt with the following cases Wednesday, Jan. 7:
Daniel Thomas Beavers, 23, Ronan, pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, fourth or subsequent offense. An omnibus hearing is set for Feb. 18 and a jury trial is set to begin April 6.
According to court documents, charges stem from a November 2014 incident when a police officer made a traffic stop on Beavers, who appeared to be intoxicated. His breath test revealed he was over the legal limit. Beavers’ driving record showed two prior DUI convictions and Tribal Court provided a copy of a third DUI conviction.
Larry Grilliot, 30, Hot Springs, pleaded not guilty to two counts of felony assault on a peace officer or judicial officer. An omnibus hearing is set for Feb. 18 and a jury trial is set to begin April 6.
According to court documents, charges stem from a Christmas Eve 2014 report of a disorderly male who was threatening suicide and threatening the reporting party. When two Ronan police officers arrived, Grilliot approached them with a knife in his hand, and refused to drop it when asked. Both officers deployed their tasers, and Grilliot was taken to a local hospital, where he told a Lake County Deputy that he intended to kill both police officers or die trying.
Robert Joseph Parot, Jr., 37, Polson, in a change of plea admitted committing the offense of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, fourth or subsequent offense, a felony. He also admitted misdemeanor charges of not having required motor vehicle insurance and driving while his license is suspended or revoked. The court found Parot, Jr., guilty. Sentencing is set for Feb. 11.
According to court documents, charges stem from a September 2014 incident where a woman reported that another driver had hit her vehicle on Highway 93 in Polson, and that she had followed the vehicle home. The reporting party pointed Parot out as the driver who had hit her. Parot, who appeared intoxicated, said he had pulled onto Highway 93 from a local market and hit another vehicle. He also said he did not have a drivers license or insurance. Performance on three physical sobriety tests indicated that Parot was under the influence of alcohol, and his breath test recorded .163.
Brandon Jeppesen, 30, Polson, in a change of plea admitted committing criminal endangerment, a felony. The court found him guilty. Sentencing is set for Feb. 11.
According to court documents, charges stem from a September 2014 incident where a Montana Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop Jeppesen while he was riding his motorcycle on Highway 93 in Polson. After initially starting to pull over, Jeppesen instead sped off. The trooper pursued, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph. Two oncoming vehicles were forced off the road during the pursuit, which continued until Jeppesen lost control of the motorcycle and slid into the front of a sheriff’s patrol car. Jeppesen tried to flee on foot but stopped when he realized he was injured.
Judge Deborah Kim Christopher dealt with the following cases Thursday, Jan. 8:
Michael Trombley, 27, Missoula, was sentenced as a persistent felony offender to DOC for 20 years with 15 suspended for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a felony. For violating parole on a previous theft conviction, Trombley was sentenced to DOC for two years, with none suspended, to run concurrently with the previous sentence.
According to court documents, Trombley was stopped in Pablo in May 2013 following a report of a drunk driver. Because Trombley had a warrant for his arrest and was on felony probation for felony DUI, he was taken to the Lake County Jail, where he refused to participate in DUI processing, nor would he provide a breath sample. A blood test showed his BAC was .169. Trombley has five previous DUI convictions.
Douglas Cecil Dumont, 54, St. Ignatius, was sentenced to DOC for five years, none suspended, for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, fourth or subsequent offense.
According to court documents, charges stem from a June 2014 incident where Dumont was stopped for failing to signal a turn in Pablo. He appeared intoxicated but refused to provide a breath sample. His driving record showed seven prior DUI convictions.
Jeanette Couture, 37, Arlee, in a change of plea admitted committing the offense of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, fourth or subsequent offense, a felony. The court found her guilty. Sentencing is set for Feb. 12.
According to court documents, charges stem from a January 2014 incident where Couture was stopped in St. Ignatius shortly after leaving a bar. She was intoxicated and her breath test at Lake County Jail was .214. She had three prior DUI convictions.
