Holy Toboggans! This little groundhog poked his nose out of his burrow to see another accumulation of snow. It’s a winter wonderland. That’s the romantic in me. The realistic side said “you’d better get out and build a fire in the snow blower.” Once I could get out of my own driveway I headed for the senior center and did the same. We did just barely manage to get our hot meals delivered and managed to convince a few folks who called for rides that they didn’t really need to go anywhere. Tomorrow should be better. By the time you read this, all the snow will be melted in the January thaw. That’s the optimistic side of me.
The veterans’ representative will be here on the third Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m.–noon, this month on the 20th.
The hearing aid representative will be here on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 9–11 a.m.
Tuesday senior bowling once again saw Alice Johnson taking the high women’s game with 242 and again she had the high women’s series with 551. Keith Ross had a high men’s game of 275 but Don Young had a 696 for the men’s series. Frani Basta took the women’s handicap series with 717 while Don Young had a 744 for handicap series. Gene Johnson was right behind Don with 741.
Our pinochle group is back again with eight people and two tables. Gene Johnson showed that he’s not only a good bowler but a sharp pinochle player also. He scored 5480 for first, just edging out Pete Daniel’s 5460. You have to get up pretty early in the morning to beat Pete at pinochle.

• Thursday, Jan. 15: barbecue ribs with baked potatoes
• Friday, Jan. 16: cheeseburger, French fries, baked beans
• Monday, Jan. 19: sausage gravy biscuits
• Tuesday, Jan. 20: pork chops with rice and gravy
• Wednesday, Jan. 21: goulash, corn, French bread
• Lunch is served from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
