BIG ARM — A manhunt on Melita Island Lane Jan. 15 netted James Rand Hernvall, 34, and Jessica Erin Taylor, 37. Both were wanted on warrants — Hernvall in Montana and Idaho and Taylor in both Flathead and Lincoln County.

Law enforcement was alerted when a resident called Lake County dispatch at approximately 12:38 p.m. to report two people going through mailboxes on Melita Island Lane, according to Lake County Sheriff Don Bell.

When officers approached the couple, they drove up a dead end road and then fled on foot. The car’s license plate was an expired Idaho plate.

Taylor was apprehended shortly, and Flathead County law enforcement alerted Lake County deputies that Hernvall was generally with Taylor.

Flathead County also sent their helicopter and crew to help with the search. Lake County deputies were waiting in the White Swan drainage in case Hernvall ran that far.

The helicopter crew spotted a man entering a garage where the road had no tracks in the snow, so Lake County deputies arrested Hernvall, who resisted and had to be tased.

Hernvall was wanted for assault with a weapon, a felony, on a warrant issued in Flathead County on June 26, 2013.
