People’s Center 

PABLO — The “Sunday History Series” will celebrate the meaning of the months for the Salish, Pend d’Oreille and Kootenai Tribes. Each presentation will be held at the People’s Center in Pablo from 1-4 p.m.

• Feb. 8 – “Coldest Month,” “Month of the Bear.” Presentations on the bear by Whisper Means and Steph Gillen. Crafts: moccasin making.

• March 8 - “Month of The Geese,” “Month of Melting Snow.” Presentations on geese by Whisper Means and Steph Gillen.

• April 12 - “Buttercup Month,” “Month of Cracked Ground.” Presentations on plants and gathering.

• May 17 - “Month of The Bitterroot,” “Month of High Water.” Presentations on bitterroot, waterways.

• June 27 - “Month of Camas,” “Month of Strawberries.” Presentations on camas and berries.

• July 12 - “Celebration Month,” “Month of Serviceberry.” Presentations on powwows, celebrations, service berries.

• Aug. 22 - “Huckleberry Month.” 

Presentations on berries, uses and storage.

• Sept. 13 - “Chokecherry Month.” 

Presentations on chokecherries, uses and storing.

• Oct. 11, “Hunting Month,” “Month of Falling Leaves.”

Presentations on traditional hunting, uses of meat.

• Nov. 8, “Storytelling Month,” “Month of Deer Mating.” Presentations on storytelling, wild game (deer).

• Dec. 13, “Trapping Month,” “Ice Fishing Month.” 

Presentations of trapping and Ice fishing.

Presentations usually last an hour to hour and half. After each presentation we will have crafts available for participants. Bring your projects or start a new one. History presenters and specific crafts will be announced as the presentation date gets closer. Everyone welcome, including volunteers.
