Editor,
My name is Andrew “A.J.” Couture. I am writing in regards to Harry Lozeau. A Harry Lozeau you haven’t heard about. I know a man — Harry Lozeau — who was there in my darkest hours of life, showing me a road that I proudly walk. I know a man that put everything aside to help me keep strength I never knew I had. I know a man that would have $10 in his pocket and the choice to drink or give it to someone who needed it. He would say “I don’t need to drink,” and give the money away. He would ask to borrow a dollar of the money he just gave you to get a Pepsi. I know a man that would have absolutely nothing at all and if someone needed help he would go into the woods and gather sticks and bark from a tree and make an amazing piece of art to sell so he could help them out. Harry would walk eight miles to my house to measure my kids’ feet, then spend sleepless nights to make moccasins for them. My girls watched stick game at a powwow and they wanted a hand drum, so the next time he came over he had hand drums and drumsticks for them.
Harry made all kinds of things for them and many others because he simply liked to give. He would walk eight miles to my house just to make my girl chocolate milk. He probably didn’t realize that because he didn’t have to think about it, because it was in his heart.
I know a man who cared for his brother like no one else would. You would never know that because you never saw. I remember countless memories of me, Harry, and my Uncle Terry’s fun times.
So I just want to say thank you Harry Paul Lozeau for the great things you have done and will do. You taught me so much. I will show people the positive you have done by following the road you showed me. I am really proud to follow it. Your family is not broken because we say, with our heads held high: We are here and always will be. Thank you.
