Editor,
“All things are lessons God would have me learn.”
The lesson is from “A Course In Miracles”, a self-study program of spiritual psychology which I have been working with since the fall of 1980. Studying is one thing; applying is quite another. But it hit me, as I worked with the lesson today, that it has an important message to share.
Our world is in a mess, for sure, especially in the Middle East. The following that I saw in the news is very appropriate. “The current cycle of violence and war in the Middle East is deeply rooted in U.S. foreign policy decisions that reach back to U.S. invasion of Iraq and beyond.”
It is becoming quite clear that a dramatic change and shift in the way the U.S. is presently approaching the Middle East’s conflicts is absolutely necessary. This is where my lesson for the day comes in. “A Course In Miracles” lessons are all about changing the mind, not about God intervening or telling is what to do. It’s all about changing minds. And these lessons are available in all things, even the things that we all are experiencing through endless wars, battles, conflicts, acts of terrorism, and actions based on fear and anger. Are we actually learning our lessons? What are the lessons? Are our minds aligned with fear and anger at others or with hope and trust in a Creative Power?
To align with this Creative Power requires a change in minds and a change in thoughts and attitudes. And it happens from the ground up; from one individual to another. It cannot be imposed; it must come to and through a willing heart and mind.
This transcends any religion, any culture, and any nation. It is universal in nature. It is taking any and all “things” and using them as “lessons” which God would have us learn. It seems to me this mind-shift is very needed in each of our lives today because it will lead to decisions and outer actions which are healing in nature instead of hateful and hurtful.
