Editor,

Parents often ask me, “Why should I send my child to Mission Valley Christian Academy?” Here is some recent research to assure you why MVCA is a great choice to educate your children:

http://www.cardus.ca/research/education/publications/surveys/

If you don’t care to read the whole study, here are some highlights from the survey:

1. Private school graduates are more likely to reflect positively on their high school experience and consider it crucial in preparing them for their adult lives.

2. Evangelical Protestant schools seem to be the most successful in socializing graduates in Christian practices and beliefs.

3. The close-knit nature of private schools suggests graduates feel prepared for and value relationships as adults.

4. This study dispels the concern that private schools isolate students from social diversity but actually forms graduates who are equally if not more open to interaction to difference in their adult lives.

5. Evangelical Protestant graduates tend to make more personal sacrifices and pursue work that may not be valued as highly in our society — perhaps jobs related to religious ministry or serving others in areas such as social work, heath care and education.

The private school areas needing growth are preparation for STEM subjects — Science, Technology, Engineering and Math — exposure to arts and culture and better attention to academic and occupational trajectories.

It’s exciting to have scientific research that supports what we know to be true at MVCA. Our mission of providing a Christ centered quality education developing lifelong servant leaders fits with this study and although we need to focus on continually improving, this confirms we are headed the right direction.

Please consider coming to our dinner auction on Saturday, Feb. 28, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The fabulous meal is catered by Vista Linda. A world class carving by Dr. Mike Windauer, airfare and tickets to a Seahawks home game as well as cooking lessons from Mrs. Wonderful are just a few of the amazing auction items available. We also wish to thank the many local businesses for their generous donations. Call (406) 883-6858 to reserve your tickets because they are going fast.
