Editor,

In speaking with my brother in Mississippi and discussing what can be done about this explosion of present international terrorism problems, I was reminded of a solution, which I had originally shared in a letter to the editor a number of years ago. I’ll share it here, again. My brother liked it, by the way.

My thought is establishing an international movement called ITEM. This stands for “International Terrorism Elimination Movement.” Here is how it works, and why it works.

ITEM is an international teamwork movement directed by international leaders in diplomacy, politics, religion, education, and the military. These carefully selected leaders will be very dedicated, experienced and coming with excellent credentials.

The whole purpose is to attack the source of the problem before the problem attacks us. Retaliation is often too late. ITEM infiltrates and discovers devious plans and tactics before they are put into action. ITEM has quick response “Navy SEAL” type military units available to them. ITEM educates the young who are the recruits and life-blood of terrorist organizations. ITEM meets with any nations’ leadership, securing important, workable diplomatic agreements. ITEM shuts down the economic and funding pieces of terrorist movements.

ITEM’s intelligence knows about planned terrorist movements before they are launched. ITEM agencies move quickly, effectively and with precision. ITEM is credible, pervasive and very effective in the fields of education, intelligence, infiltration, diplomatic persuasion of reluctant leaders, and military actions when necessary.

Right now international terrorist groups just love the way we are doing things. The world feeds right into their needs and agendas. Their mantra is “create chaos, create fear.” It is working well for them. In the U.S. our politicians and talking heads talk endlessly, blaming this party, that party, this person, that person, this agency, and that agency with no sensible solutions in mind.

ITEM circumvents politics and prejudices. ITEM attacks root causes. ITEM builds hope. ITEM has international support. ITEM builds toward peace. ITEM relentlessly educates youth into a whole different mind-set; mind-sets built upon hope, learned skills and instilling positive thinking toward personal growth and self-empowerment. Go, ITEM.
