Editor,
I will admit I have no knowledge of the “space junk fallout” and will not claim to. But the recent Big Arm grassfire that has a firefighter making speculative accusations at best, and leaving area residents thinking that an ordinary phenomenon has taken wings and flown in, is out of control. Have we seen anyone from a space agency drop by to check in?
Yes, we have the rights under the constitution to speak freely, but I don’t believe that ranting and raving is included.
Matt Sisler is not the fire chief, he is not the state fire marshal, and he is not even an officer with the fire department.
When the call was received from the area, more than one resident reported they heard explosion-like sounds before the fire was spotted. Well, for all we know it could have been fireworks.
The fire department has to be responsible for their actions, and that includes leadership to keep and maintain the integrity that reports to the community. I have been involved with this fire department for close to 14 years as a former firefighter and former trustee. My husband (an officer) and son (a rural board member) are both on the department. During the years, I have been on the Ladies Auxiliary as well as done much volunteering and have much knowledge of the goings-on that the department has been through. But, to have a person freelancing with statements that have no evidence to back them only creates ambivalence among the other firefighters.
I am an avid reader and don’t appreciate your humoring the ravings of someone who has no qualifications to make any of the calls that occurred that night.
