Editor,

People who work in retail work hard for a living. Whether you work at a mom/pop store or a box store, some of us are very angered by the people who shoplift.

One store can lose $200 to $20,000 each month from theft.

Shoplifting should be more a crime than a slap on the wrist. Every item taken puts a hardship on the honest shopper and their families. Does anyone care about this epidemic on our reservation and community? People who work in the stores sure do.

Working in retail — one knows from paying attention to traffic in the stores — there is probably a 70/30 gap in who shoplifts. We also know the groups involved. Which group do you belong to? Stop stealing from the honest workers and your communities. Where is your pride?

In some countries you would lose a hand due to your thievery.
