Editor,
Susan Lake and Mary Stranahan of the Montana Water Stewards would like to thank everyone who drove to Helena, wrote letters to their representatives and made telephone calls in support of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Compact and donated money in support of our efforts. It took a village to raise this child to the level of legislative acceptance so it can go on to Washington D.C. and then back to the CSKT Tribes.
It is our sincere hope that tempers stop flaring and people realize that historical use means farmers can continue to raise crops and make an agricultural living on the CSKT Reservation. Residential folks will have their wells grandfathered in so land transactions and banking loans on real estate can proceed with certainty. Montana will have an extra 90,000 acre feet of water that would not be available without the Compact.
It is the Montana Water Stewards hope that we move on, reestablish our neighborly habits and get on with life.
Mary Stranahan
