Editor,
It was with some dismay that I read Mr. Pettit’s letter to the editor of the Valley Journal dated March 14. This letter is wrong on so many levels.
Mr. Pettit is entitled by all means to his own opinion but not to making up the facts to go along with his outrageous claims and incredible bias. If truth matters, then Mr. Pettit needs to look in the mirror as his version of the truth does not match that of reality. As for character, well, that is for the readers to decide for themselves. It is also curious to see a man take on the mantle of the savior Jesus the Christ and then turn and slap the face of your fellows. And why? Because they might vote their consciences. If I were a Latter Day Saint (I am not), I would be very hesitant to sit in the same building with a person such as Mr. Pettit. After all, who wants to be branded a heretic for thinking for yourself and exercising your free agency? Mr. Pettit seems to think that when it to comes to faith, that his brand is more patriotic than any other in the land; that seems to be rather chauvinistic to me.
Mr. Pettit is rather characteristic of what is wrong in our country: Chicken Little running down the street hysterically crying that the sky is falling — when in fact, it is not; the sky is just fine. There is not a conspiracy behind every tree, and the black helicopters are not coming for you.
Mr. Pettit is just providing us with pious froth and ignorance. As far as repentance goes, perhaps Mr. Pettit would like to take another look in the mirror?
