RONAN — Popping fireworks can be great fun, if done in an appropriate time and manner.
Ronan Public Works Director Dan Miller posted a note at City Hall last week as a reminder that the Ronan City Council adopted new fireworks regulations last summer, that are currently in effect.
Under the ordinance, within city limits the detonation of fireworks is allowed June 24 until July 2 from 8 a.m. until the town’s curfew. The curfew is 10 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday.
On July 3 and 4 fireworks will be permitted from 8 a.m. until 1 a.m.
On July 5, fireworks are allowed until 10 p.m., under the ordinance. Consequences for violating the ordinance is a written first warning, an $85 fine for a second offense, and a $500 fine for a third offense.
Those celebrating with fireworks are also reminded that fire danger in Lake County is currently at “very high” and to use caution. Under state law individuals may be held liable for any inadvertent property damage caused by accidental fires.
