POLSON – A Ronan man accused of shooting a child in a buzzed game of “gun tag” is scheduled for sentencing this week.
Galen Hawk, 27, could face up to 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine after pleading guilty to negligent homicide in an Oct. 22, 2014 fatal shooting of 3-year-old Lonato Moran-Allen. He also pleaded guilty in an agreement with prosecutors to a felony driving under the influence charge that was pending at the time of the shooting. For that offense he could have to serve 13 months in a treatment program and Montana State Prison. He could be fined $10,000.
According to court documents, Hawk admitted to investigators that he accidentally shot the child in a game of “gun tag,” played after he consumed alcohol earlier the night of the shooting. Hawk said he didn’t know the gun was loaded.
