ST. IGNATIUS — Not even rain and wind could stop the Lady Bulldogs from winning their inaugural softball game of the season, defeating the Deer Lodge Lady Wardens 15-5 in six innings due to the 10-run margin rule.
St. Ignatius’ Loren Erickson led at the plate and the mound pitching. Erickson pitched her first varsity game, allowing six hits, two walks and six strikeouts. She also went 3-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs.
“She did a good job,” head coach Susan Weaselhead said, also noting the standout play of catcher Alyssa Doty, who went 2-3 at bat, despite the muddy elements.
“We have six returning starters … and three seniors,” Weaselhead said.
“It’s a nice knowledgeable base to draw from.”
Seniors on the team include Janeal McDonald, Kinley Pope and Serena Long.
“I got a great outfield that is quick and fast,” Weaselhead said. “And through the season we are going to keep working on hitting.”
The Lady Bulldogs faced the Maidens in Ronan Tuesday and will play Thompson Falls at home Saturday, April 14.
