Editor,
Mission Valley Animal Shelter is extremely grateful to all the emergency personnel that so quickly responded to the fire next to the shelter on Friday, Aug. 21.
What could have been a disastrous outcome was averted by their ability to get to the shelter in such short time. We had but a few minutes to react as the fire started just a block away from our facility. We have an evacuation plan but never expected to have to act on it so amazingly fast. Firefighters, County Sheriffs and police appeared in numbers, concerned for the welfare of our dogs, cats and people. The community response was equally as strong with so many people offering homes for the night to keep the animals safe. I went to bed that night with a smile thinking of our dogs being in loving, caring real homes for the night and not at the shelter. I encourage all of you with pets to have an evacuation plan ready in case of any such emergency for all of your family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and paw pads to those reaching out to help keep our community safe.
