Two Eagle

This is the first year in many that Two Eagle River High School has had a cross-country team. The sport opened back up at the school after three students asked for it.

“We thought it would be a good way to get in shape for basketball,” Sophomore Zach Mathias said, referring to Issaiah Mathias and Tristan George.

The team isn’t running at the front of the pack this year, but Head Coach Montana Nevarez isn’t worried.

“This is a learning year,” he said.

The team competed in Arlee on Monday. Issaiah came in at 25:08, Zach had a time of 25:40 and Tristan was in at 26:37.

MISSION — Mission’s Tate Weingart sped to a second-place finish with a time of 18:38 at the Arlee Fish Hatchery Run held Monday, Oct. 5. Teammate Wacey McClure placed 20th, just two tenths of a second before his teammate Korbyn Pierre, who placed 21st.

Warren Castor also placed very well for the boys’ team, according to coach Chris Eichert.

In the girls’ race, Lady Bulldog runner Shaniya Decker came in 15th and teammate Tori Peterson placed 20th.

“All (our) athletes ran so well,” Eichert said. “This course had a lot of hills at the end, so our times weren’t PR’s; however, they all did awesome.”

Eichert said she is also pleased with the first-year middle school team of which some runners have placed first in their races.

On Thursday the varsity teams will head to the Divisional Meet in Thompson Falls.
