Polson High Soccer

POLSON — The Polson Lady Pirates ended their season scoring 36 goals and 28 assists, with a 9-4 record overall and 6-2 in conference, finishing second in the Northwest A Conference. It is the second time in two years the girls placed second in the conference.

Polson’s in-conference losses came to Whitefish and Columbia Falls. It was the first time in more than a decade that Polson has beaten Whitefish in Whitefish, and also the first time Polson has beaten Columbia Falls at all, during the same time period.

“It was a very successful season for the girls,” Coach Michael Hewston said. “The chemistry among the girls was very positive and they worked well as a team.”

The Lady Pirates had four All-Conference players, including Ashlee Howell with two goals and 16 assists, JaNessa Taylor with seven goals and two assists, Marina Mayorga with five goals and one assist, and Hannah Kasnitz with two goals.

The Lady Pirates also had three All-State selections this year including senior defender Brenna Clark, junior defender Olivia Hewston, and junior striker Tiara Duford with 18 goals and four assists.

Hewston said there were a lot of firsts this year.

“The Columbia Falls win in Polson was huge for team morale. It was like a light came on when they realized they could win that game,” he said. “They will be stronger mentally and physically next year.”

The Lady Pirates will have 12 juniors returning as seniors next year.
