Editor,
Starbucks, Goddess Caffeina have mercy on them, naïvely attempted to sidestep the politicized culture wars with colorful holiday cups sans seasonal greetings. Start your indignation engines.
The usual Fox and Fiends babbled, but Donald Trump’s tirade to a religious liberty-loving mob was the greatest.
Trump pledged, “When I’m president everyone will say Merry Christmas!” and the throng of thumpers madly clapped and cheered in rabid unison. This conservative crowd swears pure revulsion for political correctness, while insisting that all Americans (77 percent is insufficient) mindlessly kowtow to their brand of mysticism.
Republicans vying for Ignoramus-in-Chief have gone from amusing to disturbing. Will it be the ego-maniacal liar who believes a fictional character built extravagant grain silos, aka Egyptian pyramids? Or will they opt for the self-absorbed billionaire who wants to resurrect Eisenhower’s “operation wetback”? We’re assured these buffoons will ultimately fail and a more experienced war-mongering, Bible thumping, LGBT bashing, science denying, woman subjugating clown will eventually prevail. Oh, tidings of joy.
The GOP contestants, stridently decreeing “religious-liberty,” all vow to deny reproductive health coverage to women. Religious liberty that forsakes personal freedom is not liberty at all, but unconstitutional religious regulation.
Dick Cheney aptly embraced Darth Vadar’s theme song, epitomizing the indisputable Dark Side of the modern conservative Force. Hypocritical Neocons waving pro-life banners cannot credibly cry crocodile tears over embryos, while simultaneously solving every world crisis militarily with cold disregard for certain death tolls of biblical proportions.
From Kentucky County Clerk, Kim Davis to Texas Senator, Ted Cruz, to New York billionaire, Trump, to addle-brained surgeon, Ben Carson, right-wing extremists on every level threaten to “take our country back” to the Dark Ages. In an era of increasing crises we urgently need intelligent, rational grownups in charge, not prepubescent Puritans.
