At the risk of sounding repetitive to last year’s December message, I can hardly believe another year has come and is almost gone. Days are filled with emails and conversations, weeks are filled with meetings and events, and months are filled with researching and planning, and before you know it, 12 of those have slipped by ever so swiftly.
Within the City of Polson, 2015 represents a time of change. New faces, new structure in department operations, updated ordinances, etc. Overall, the City staff and commissioners continue to work hard for the betterment of our community. I am very grateful to the team for their continued efforts, and we are always looking to improve and provide our citizens with valuable assistance.
As I reflect on the past year, on a personal level, I am struck by the number of unfortunate losses our community faced – many who were much too young to leave us so soon, and others who were longtime standing pillars of our town. My heart goes out to the families who were personally affected by these losses, and my appreciation goes out to the many community members whose arms embrace them during these difficult times.
I have wanted to find a way to honor all of these people, and to provide an opportunity for positive energy to be placed into our community as we head into the next year. This is why we are working on a program to kick off Jan. 1 called “Polson Proud 2016.” This will be a Facebook page where anyone within our community can nominate or write a note of appreciation to a person, a business, or an organization, and at the end of each month all the people mentioned will have an opportunity to win a prize. The hope is that we will take time to recognize people for the little, or big, things they do throughout the year, and we will celebrate those acts within our community. I hope you will be willing to share a word of thanks on this Facebook page at some point throughout the next year.
I wish you all a special holiday season, and I thank you again for the honor of allowing me to serve as your Mayor.
