2016 is here and before you know it, we are going to once again be rounding the last corner of the year. I’m ready for an uplifting year, and am hoping that we can see successes, happiness and positivity in our community in the coming 12 months.

On the City Commission, one new face is joining our team. Commissioner John Campbell from Ward 1 has completed his term and decided not to run again. Our new Commissioner, Todd Coutts, is stepping in to take on the role.

Commissioner Campbell served the City as a Commissioner for six years. As a retired City staff member, he provided our group with a great amount of history on the City, knowledge of operations, process and procedures; and was an incredible advocate for the citizens. I am very fortunate and honored to have had the opportunity to serve with and learn from him throughout the last two years. We thank him, and wish him well as he moves on to other endeavors within our community.

New Commissioner Coutts is an owner of Wildhorse Trading and Pawn, and has been living in our community for more than 10 years. We look forward to his contributions to our City and his representation of our Ward 1 citizens.

Returning for his second term is Stephen Turner from Ward 2. Ian Donovan, who was appointed to the Commission in June, will also continue into a new term as your elected Ward 3 representative.

Your full City Commission for the next two years includes: Ward 1 – Todd Erickson and Todd Couts; Ward 2 – Stephen Turner and Jill Southerland; Ward 3 – Ken Siler and Ian Donovan; and myself serving as your Mayor.

We encourage our community members to maintain communication with us. Our email addresses are available on the city website (cityofpolson.com), or you can call City Hall to leave a message or notes for us (406-883-8200). City Commission meetings are the first and third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 106 1st Street East. Your input and information is incredibly valuable as we continue to fulfill our roles in representing the citizens, businesses, organizations, events and visitors to our community.

Once again, looking ahead to this year my hope is that as a community we will have a positive and successful year. I want to encourage everyone to “pay it forward” by showing your own thanks and appreciation for various people or organizations that are doing great things in our town. Please feel free to recognize these folks on the Facebook page “Polson Proud 2016.” Not only will you be helping to spread the positivity, but the person or business you recognize may also be the recipient of a fun gift.

Wishing you all the best in 2016.
