Polson wrestlers stay on top with back-to-back team wins

DILLON — The Polson Pirates continued their domination as they finished in first place at last weekend’s Ronan Duals, where 17 teams competed throughout the two-day tournament.
The Pirates were also the only undefeated team at the earlier Dillon Duals wrestling tournament Saturday, Jan. 2.
“The Polson Pirate Wrestlers started the new year with a bang,” said Head Coach Bill Owen. “They rolled over Dillon, Hamilton, and Butte Central at the Dillon Duals.”
R.J. Pierre, Bridger Wenzel, Cameron Brown, Parker Adler, Colton Cote, Noah Humphrey and Nick Marquart went undefeated in their weight classes in Dillon.
The wrestling team also romped over the Frenchtown Broncs on Jan. 5 at the Polson High School gym. The Pirates lost only two close matches on the way to a 49-12 victory. Pirate 145-pounder Parker Adler won the biggest bout of the evening as he knocked off second-ranked Cody Warner by decision 6-4. Warner had beaten Adler in their last outing in the Polson Invitational. Pirates Cameron Brown and Bridger Wenzel pinned their opponents in 37 seconds.
Going into the Ronan duals, the team was ranked number-two in Class A wrestling.
“We are very excited about the progress our team is making,” Owen said. “We have not been ranked this high in many years.”
