Editor,

Some of your readers may recall the letter that I had written to your paper a few weeks back regarding how I was being passed around between the Contract Care coverage and the Deferred Services.

Several days after my letter was printed in the Journal, I received a letter from Deferred Services stating they would cover the echocardiogram, and so we scheduled it as soon as possible.

I’m glad I had undergone the echocardiogram for they discovered I had a heart valve that is leaking and we had already known of the prolapsed heart valve since I was just 17 years old. Most doctors will tell you that a prolapse valve is no big deal and you can live a fairly good life with it, just avoid stress. They don’t tell you that over time the prolapse valve can cause damage to the heart, and in some cases heart failure.

My sister who was only 54 years old died last year due to heart complications. I am only 51 years old and have two different things going on with my heart. At times I can’t even get up 12 steps without having to stop and take a break.

Thank you, Deferred Services, for making the decision to cover this echocardiogram. To the members: don’t wait around for Contract Care to cover your medical. Check out all your options.
