Editor,
Just a note for those who may not be aware of the passing of Dick Siebert, a long-time Polson High School faculty member and former Polson city mayor. His wife Judy, a former Polson high school librarian, reported that Dick passed away in Zillah, Washington on Dec. 11.
Dick taught government classes here for many years and was highly respected by his students and his fellow teachers. I had the opportunity and pleasure to work for several years with Dick and was consistently impressed with his professionalism and especially his willingness to volunteer his time and efforts beyond the norm both at school and on behalf of the community.
Dick was a strong student advocate and for years was the advisor for the school’s Board of Governors. He accompanied students to a myriad of relevant events including trips to Helena to observe the state’s in-session legislature. He was also one of the prime promoters of the popular annual school carnival and could be seen supporting kids at most all of the school’s extra-curricular activities.
Many will remember Dick’s booming “voice of the Pirates.” He spent many evenings, high above the old football field in what was known as “the crow’s nest,” calling the game. And at times, much to the chagrin of opposing coaches, Dick would excitedly shout out opponent’s plays as they developed.
Dick will be remembered by many and will be missed. He was a good man.
