Editor,
With all the talk about terrorism out there against one group of people or another, we can all agree that it is wrong and should be stopped, no matter who the people are. All people deserve protection, all are made in God’s image.
But there is one group of people that has been largely forgotten by the powers-that-be. One group of people that certain medical doctors can legally torture and kill. One group of people that no one calls out the police or the Army or the National Guard to protect them. One group of people that if they were already breathing the same air that you and I breathe, then someone might hear their desperate cries for help and come to their rescue.
This group of people deserves all the protection and chance to have a life as you and I.
I wrote this poem, to help us understand how they might feel, and the case they would make for themselves if they could.
I am somebody, oh yes, that’s right. Even though I’m so small and completely out of sight.
If you could see me now, you’d say, “I can see. You’re cute as a bug, and a lot like me.”
I just want to live, and a chance to turn out right. If only they’d listen and put up a fight.
Instead of making me, like a big fat zero. Come on, people. I really need a hero.
Tell the whole world, we’ve got a holocaust here. Can I get a witness? Can somebody cheer?
If you don’t speak up for little ones like me, they might next come for you, and where will you be?
