It has been my pleasure to serve as the office manager for the Polson Chamber of Commerce for three and a half years. But family obligations have made a move necessary and I will be leaving at the end of the month. Before I go, I wanted to talk about and thank the people who make up the Polson Chamber and make it so important to our community.
There’s a formal mission statement on the Polson Chamber’s website. The statement reminds us that we are supposed to enhance the business climate, promote our area and foster a sense of community. I can say with confidence that the volunteers, board of directors and Chamber members have done that – and more – in 2015. Recognizing the importance of tourism to our area, we have used special events to promote our area, encouraging visitors to come to Polson for a day, a weekend or longer. In addition, we sponsor an annual photo contest to select a photo for the cover of our promotional map/brochure that is distributed to our visitors throughout the region.
Our Chamber volunteers have joined with other organizations to support numerous community projects including the flower baskets that bloom in downtown Polson every summer, the blue ribbon campaign honoring our first responders and Small Business Saturday, which encourages holiday shopping in our local stores.
We helped to sponsor the Fourth of July fireworks for several years and have now taken on the responsibility for improving and enlarging the annual parade. When our Christmas tree lights were deemed unsafe, a true community effort ended with a truly spectacular tree sparkling with thousands of lights.
We try to inform the community through the speakers at our monthly luncheons and sponsorship of programs, such as the Steve Beck customer service seminar. Our monthly SPLASH gives everyone an opportunity to learn more about local businesses.
Everything we do is a team effort. And we honor members of that team every November during our annual awards banquet. While we focus on the award winners, this is a night for everyone to reflect on past successes and make plans to build for the future.
The members of the Polson Chamber team will change through the years, but the spirit and the enthusiasm is ever-present. I’m sad to leave that team. But I’m also confident that the team is already hard at work on the 2016 program on behalf of Polson and the surrounding area.
Thank you to everyone in Polson for your support of the Chamber and its efforts on behalf of our community.
