Lake County 4-H Shooting Sports has a cargo trailer thanks to Mike and Annette Carlson. About two years ago, the Carlsons learned that the youth group was in need of a cargo trailer, and the Carlsons just happened to have a used horse trailer they could donate. Annette said their daughter had positive experiences with 4-H, and they wanted to give something back.
Since the horse trailer needed to be converted from horses to cargo, the Mission Valley Vocational Agriculture program in Ronan was contacted. According to Tom Fieber with the shooting sports group, Vo Ag teacher Stan Delaney put the students to work welding solid panels on the back doors and replacing damaged parts. The job began in 2010 and finished at the end of the 2011 school year.
Fieber said lots of people helped out including Dave Ottun and the Mission Valley Archers. They got involved in the project, raising money for materials, paint, the title and license.
Ottun credited Fieber with spearheading the effort.
“Tom has been phenomenal,” he said.
Ronan NAPA helped with paint, WBC with materials, Gull Printing and Rocky Mountain Sign Works provided the graphics.
4-H shooting instructors Fred Grant and Les Mutchler will be able to store and transport all the shooting and archery equipment in the trailer. The instructors teach
shooting skills, archery, firearm safety, gun handling with shotguns and air rifles.
