Editor,

I have become aware of the present City of Polson Parks Director Karen Sargeant’s resignation from Polson to accept a similar position in Chelan, Washington. This lady has given her heart, soul and boundless energy to Polson residents and visitors, and was always thinking out of the box. Thus, she leaves a city that can be proud of the results of her work. Karen also was assisted by Mike, a loyal, dedicated parks employee who has also contributed greatly.

Upon this becoming public knowledge I forwarded to Karen the following:

Karen, upon becoming public knowledge, I have mixed feelings but overall joy for you for many reasons. You have developed Polson Parks beyond anyone’s dream since assuming the position. A fresh start is good. Good for both of you. I wish you the best. Chelan’s gain will definitely be Polson’s loss.

You have heard me mention more than once in our conversations: “know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold them” and also, “leave while you’re on top.” You’re at the top, the absolute pinnacle of your game (in Polson) and your contributions will long be felt in Polson by its citizenry and visitors. Moving on to share your strengths, energies, commitment and loyalty to the cause at hand will quickly be felt by Chelan’s government and citizenry.

They say everyone is replaceable; well, it won’t be easy finding anyone as enthusiastic, loyal and committed to excellence in any area you were a part of — fire services included. Polson’s City Manager, Mayor, and City Commissioners have a mighty steep hill to climb in attempting to find a person of such character, integrity and unbelievable energies and work ethic you brought to your position. Indeed it will be an interesting study for me and many others as they proceed.

Much love and caring to you my friend. I couldn’t have asked for a more loyal committed friend in the office next door.
