Editor,

As King Saul was head and shoulders above all Israel’s other sons (1st Samuel 9:2), so is Easter morning above all the other mornings of the year. It is so for at least three reasons:

First of all, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the basic evidential event upon which the Christian faith rests, “And if Christ has not been raised then all our preaching is useless and your faith is useless” (1st Corinthians 15).

Secondly, in consideration with the incarnation, perfect life and horrific death of Jesus Christ it is the most significant act of God in human history. “God has raised up Jesus Christ” (Acts 13:33).

Thirdly, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most vital of all assurances to the Christian believer’s own resurrection; Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25).

All the blessings and redemptive value of Christ’s death would never come to us at all were it not for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. A dead Christ could be no mediator between God and humans. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is God’s declaration that his Son’s death atoned for all sin, for all time. People everywhere should be profoundly grateful that Jesus took our penalty and satisfied all of the requirements of Divine justice.

The Holy Scriptures declare, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved” (Romans 10:9-10). He is risen!
