Seven Polson High School music students were selected to participate in the 2010 Montana All-State honor groups Oct. 19 to 21 in Billings. More than 1,000 students from across the state submitted audition CDs for the 2011 Montana All-State Band, Choir and Orchestra last spring.

Chosen from PHS for the 2011 Montana All-State Choir and Orchestra on the basis of their CDs were:
• Marisa Binder, senior, soprano I, daughter of Darci Nice
• Sheldon Clairmont, sophomore, tenor II, son of Leah and Murray Clairmont
• Sam Kinzle, junior, bass II, son of Pam and Rob Kinzle
• Niche McLure, senior, soprano II, daughter of Jimmie Sue Reneau
• Ian Ricketts, junior, tenor I, son of Connie Carte and Bob Ricketts
• Riley Roberts, senior, tenor I, son of Julia and Mike Roberts
• Jaime Young, senior, bass clarinet, daughter of Julie and Mitch Young

PHS Choir Director Chris Bumgarner said, “It is a real honor and privilege to be selected to the Montana All-State Choir and I am so pleased that these six students will represent Polson in Billings. All of these students are leaders in our Concert Choir at Polson High School. Singing in these kinds of musical experiences are what led me to become a choral music teacher and even if these students don’t pursue music as a career, singing in a group like this will impact them as well as when they return and share the experience with the rest of the choir.”

The selected music students prepare the music ahead of time and rehearse together in Billings for two days with Dr. Ryan Holder of Northern Arizona University directing the 2011 Choir. The 2011 Band will be conducted by Dr. Patrick Winters from Eastern Washington University. The 2011 Orchestra will directed by Dr. Anthony J. Maiello of George Mason University.

The groups will perform for parents, teachers, family and friends on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Alberta Bair Theatre in downtown Billings.
