It’s about racism, not bison

Editor,
In regard to a letter by one Phillip L. Barney, I would like to remind this gentleman that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service came to the Tribal Council and made the offer to turn the Bison Range over to the Tribes, and not the contrary.
This action takes away nothing from anyone. It will still be open to the public and access is still there and will be there for future generations yet to come — yes, generations of “Americans.”
And yes, CSKT does have control of the Mission Mountain Tribal Wilderness because it is Tribal, and it is a wilderness. It is a wildlife habitat with grizzly bears, etc., so we keep it free of people. We do not want it trashed like so much of the rest of this country.
And yes, the Tribes have expertise in wildlife management and no, we are not competing with anyone in regard to who is better in wildlife management.
And yes, we are acquiring more and more of our original land back. We are not attempting to do so — we are doing it.
Now let us get back to facts. You and I both know that this is not about bison, Kerr Dam, or the water compact. It is about the Tribes doing anything to enhance a better living condition or owning anything.
Racism is a bad thing, and I feel bad that you people cannot live in peace.
