Editor,
This is a letter to Montana senators.
The Montana Senate Fish and Game Committee has already acted. They passed a resolution of disapproval for SR 14, which was the resolution to confirm Dan Vermillion as Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commissioner.
As one of your final acts during the 62nd Legislative Session, please respect the wishes of hunters and fishermen that know Dan to be an excellent FWP commissioner.
Thank you and thank you for your energetic service to our state, even if I don’t agree with you all the time.
Please know that the money to operate FWP comes from the sale of hunting and fishing licenses of a majority of Montana voters who WANT FWP to listen to them. They want public land and want habitat improvement for all wildlife, not just the game and fish that is hunted and caught.
The reason most of us live in Montana and don’t make high salaries is because of the outdoor opportunities and access to federal and state land.
Pay attention to these voters and know that the general taxpayer doesn’t pay for the wildlife and habitat enhancement.
Sportsmen do and we provide a huge economic benefit to the state and its tax base.
FWP pays taxes on land they purchase.
Fishermen and hunters want professional wildlife biologists and FWP managers in charge of wildlife and its habitat, not politicians and the general taxpayer.
By trying to destroy the FWP and use hunting and fishing license money for general fund projects, you also would take away MILLIONS of dollars of tax money paid by hunters and fishermen when they purchase equipment to enjoy their sports. General taxpayers don’t pay this. WE the sportsmen do. In Montana, that would be a loss of more than $67 million that is for wildlife and habitat.
Mr. Vermillion supports hunters and fishermen, so please support him.
