Gordon Edward Terry
POLSON — Gordon Edward Terry, 68, passed away on July 22, 2016, in Polson.
Gordon was born in Missoula on Sept. 17, 1947, to James and Geraldine Terry. He attended grade school in Missoula and then moved to Polson for his high school years, graduating in 1966. Between his junior and senior years, he lived with Ted Stiles and brought his grades up from Ds to As.
While in high school he enjoyed wrestling. Following graduation, he joined the Army in August of 1966 and continued to wrestle. While playing basketball with his Army buddies in Germany, he shattered the bones in his arm and had to abandon his career as a wrestler. He concluded his military service in June 1969 and started work at Barry Shoes in Missoula.
Frequenting the donut shop next door, he met and fell in love with his future wife, Donna, and they were married in May of 1970 in Missoula. They were parents to a son, Jeff and a daughter, Laurie.
Gordon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served countless hours as a Young Men’s President, a Scoutmaster, a Cub Master, a Webelos Leader, a High Councilman in Kalispell and Missoula, and as a Bishop in the Polson Ward for five years. His favorite hobbies were attending football games and watching the Griz on TV.
He was also a very avid fisherman.
Gordon’s mother, Geraldine Montgomery, of Polson; his wife, Donna; his son, Jeff Terry, (Trinette) of Des Moines, Iowa; and his daughter, Laurie Troester, (Barney) of Missoula; his three grandchildren, Dakota and Emily Terry and Joshua Troester; and his seven brothers: Gary Terry of Arizona, Bruce Terry of Arizona, Jim Terry of Polson, Zane Terry of Washington, Adam Terry of Washington, Doug Engebretson of Alaska and Neal Engebretson of Japan, all survive him.
His father, James G. Terry and his brother, David Terry, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Polson.
