Editor,
“The lethal arrows of anger are being launched from the long bows of bigotry.” This metaphor speaks clearly to our present campaign for president of these United States of America.
Another phrase that has leaped out at me this past week is this: “The climate of hate is growing.” This originated in Germany back in the 1930s during Hitler’s growing control of the hearts and minds of average German people.
You probably get my drift here. As I watch and listen to Donald Trump speak at his rallies, I often wonder how much it takes for the relentless rhetoric of anger and fear to change the loud shouts of “Lock her up!” to “String her up.” What is the climate in America right now? Is it healthy advocating for improvement and change? Or is the climate of hate growing?
I believe this becomes a very serious consideration as we absorb the political climate in America right now. This climate has been festering and growing ever since Obama’s first day in office when the Republican leadership agreed to fight everything this new black upstart tried to do. And now, eight years later, the GOP is reaping this harvest of anger and hate. Just look who ascended to the top of the Republican ticket.
America, it seems to me that we are at a rather critical fork in the road. It will be very interesting to see what our choice is. As Yogi Berra said, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it!”
