RONAN —Mission Mountain Quilters, represented by Kay Krantz, Rosa Tougas, Donna Corum, Marina Cheff, Debbie Thingelstad and Jessie Merwin, presented K. William Harvey Elementary School Principtal Ted Madden with new U.S. and Montana flags on Monday, Sept. 26.
The quilters donated the flags in gratitude for School District 30 and staff providing use of the school gym in support of their annual quilt show.
Ronan Honor Guard members Dale Morgan and Ed Cornelius lowered the old flags and raised the new flags as students and teachers gathered around the flagpole and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and sang the National Anthem.
The old flags were received by VFW Post 5652 Commander Ron Merwin. Flags are “retired” when they are in such a condition that they are no longer a fitting emblem to display. The retired flags will be burned in a special ceremony on Flag Day, June 14, 2017.
