News from the The Boys & Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation and Lake County

RONAN — The President was elected this past Thursday and it was a woman.

The Boys & Girls Club had their Club “president for-a-day” election and in the process met some of the local candidates from Lake County. State Senate District 47 Candidate Dan Salomon, House District 12 Candidate Susan Evans and Lake County Commissioner Elect Dave Stipe shared with club members the importance of being involved in shaping the community and voting. The candidates circulated around the room answering questions and getting to know some of the members.

“I hope this gets the kids excited to vote when they are old enough,” Evans said.

After the candidates visited with the children, Club members voted for their own Club candidates for President, Vice-President and Governor. Earlier in the week Club candidates had spoken to all the members and shared their qualifications. The votes were very close and gave the staff and opportunity to show members just how valuable their vote was.

“The vote of a first grader is just a valuable as and eighth grader and counts the same to get the person you want elected. It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor, big or small, your vote counts,” one staff member said. The winners were President Alishon Kelley, Vice-President Natyus Runsabove and Governor Jayson Sinclair.

“This was a lot of fun and I actually learned something,” Runsabove said.

Salomon agreed the Club election was a good idea. “This was great. Thanks for having me and for giving the kids this experience. Let me know how I can help in the future,” Salomon said.
