Judge James A. Manley sentenced the following people Wednesday, Nov. 9:

Robert Allen Clark, 33, Pablo, changed his plea to an Alford plea, with the “substantial likelihood” that he would be convicted at trial. The court found Clark guilty of assault on a peace officer, a felony. He was sentenced to the Department of Corrections for 10 years with none suspended. In addition, for failing to appear, a felony, Clark was committed to the Department of Corrections for five years and credited for 167 days already served, to run consecutive for a total of 15 years. The court recommended Clark be screened for NEXUS and appropriate mental health treatment.

According to court documents, on May 5 Clark was stopped by a Montana Highway Patrol trooper on a traffic violation, but resisted arrest. He wrestled with the trooper, kicking and striking him.

Jessica Marie Anderson, 35, Polson, had her sentence for criminal possession of dangerous drugs, a felony, deferred for two years, and she was credited for two days already served in jail.

“You understand if your probation officer recommends certain counseling or treatment, you must complete that. Do you think you can do that?” Judge Manley asked Anderson.

“I can do that,” Anderson replied.

The sentence recognizes the positive steps Anderson has taken since the charge was filed, according to Judge Manley.

According to court documents, on Feb. 16 Anderson was hitchhiking with a male when a Lake County deputy offered to give them a lift, with the understanding they would be searched for drugs. A spoon with methamphetamine residue was found in her possession.

Clifford William Stanley, 41, Box Elder, was committed to the DOC for 13 months for placement in an appropriate treatment facility, plus three years all suspended, for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, fourth or subsequent offense. If he successfully completes an alcohol treatment program, the remainder of sentence must be served on probation. He was credited for time served.

“Good luck Mr. Stanley,” Judge Manley said.

According to court documents, on May 15, Stanley was driving intoxicated along Highway 93, north of Arlee. His driving record indicated he had three prior DUI convictions in Montana and possibly two to four more in Washington.

Mateel Wyn Muth, 19, Polson, had her sentence for criminal possession of dangerous drugs with intent to distribute, a felony, deferred for three years, and she was credited for 93 days served in treatment program. An additional count was dismissed.

The sentence acknowledges the positive steps she has taken since charges were filed, Judge Manley said.

“You are only 19, and this may sound foreign to you, but if you keep hanging around with the same friends, they are going to drag you down,” Judge Manley told Muth. “You really don’t want to have this revoked and come back and be sentenced to a harsher sentence. … Good luck.”

According to court documents, on May 16 Muth was in a residence when a probation officer came to do a probation check. Muth had 8 ounces of meth in her purse. Twelve bags of suspected cocaine and 9 grams or suspected heroin were also found in the residence.
