Judge Deborah Kim Christopher sentenced the following people Thursday, Dec. 29:

Chantel Dawn Cooper, 19, Pablo, admitted violating conditions of probation by relapsing and using methamphetamine in June 2016, resulting in a felony charge of criminal possession of dangerous drugs.

Cooper’s attorney noted Cooper has been through treatment in Montana Chemical Dependency Center, and is now in a focus recovery group home for young mothers where she can be with her child, work, attend focus groups, and has a 9 p.m. curfew

The court revoked Cooper’s 2015 deferred sentence for criminal possession of dangerous drugs, a felony, and sentenced her to the Department of Corrections for five years, all suspended except 107 days already served incarcerated and in treatment.

All conditions are reimposed. Her current drug charge was dismissed without prejudice, meaning it can be reimposed with the potential to be sentenced to Montana State Prison for up to five years, Judge Deborah Kim Christopher noted.

“It can come back to haunt you,” Judge Christopher told Cooper. “It could mean you would be separated from your child … My hope and wish for you is that you can keep going with what you are doing. You are getting a significant opportunity here."
