Editor,

Hello again, dear “Friends in Deed.” The Board of the Bread Basket wishes everyone a happy and prosperous New Year filled with hope as we thank our community for their unfailing support. Our families will continue to receive food during the months ahead because of the generous concern of their neighbors. Thank you one, and all.

Most people never have an opportunity to see how much our clients appreciate the helping hand, or how they try to give back when they can, and yet everywhere in our community people remember our neighbors in need throughout the year. They use their creativity, time and energy to organize programs to either raise money or collect food and not just for the Christmas holiday time. Then, there are those who volunteer their time to unload trucks, stock shelves or work at the center throughout the year. You have our unending gratitude.

Having our new leadership survive their first successful year we are moving forward, appreciating the new ideas and the energy that has come to help us. Not only has the community kept giving throughout the year, which is one of the greatest gifts to our neighbors, but other food banks like Polson and Bigfork keep sharing throughout the year, too. There was a good response to the request for donation of wild meat from hunters as well as others offering us meat and fish. We hope this response increases as meat is one of the hardest items to have available for our clients.

This year we became involved in helping a program from the school systems throughout the country. It involves sending home food for children who don’t have enough food through the weekend or over the holiday breaks to keep from being hungry. It is encouraging that this issue is now being addressed discreetly.

Our Board appreciates each and everything done to assist us in completing the Bread Basket’s mission. There is no gift too small when given from our hearts. Whether collecting food or giving financial support your generous efforts are humbling and inspiring. The Bread Basket Board thanks you.
