Charlotte Hewankorn
POLSON — Charlotte Mae Hewankorn, age 67, of Polson, passed away on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born on June 12, 1949, in St. Ignatius, to Charles and Alice Hewankorn. She grew up on the Flathead Indian Reservation and attended Ursuline Catholic School in St. Ignatius.
Charlotte completed her Cosmetology Degree and was an excellent beautician. She also was a very talented artist.
As she grew, she loved to travel about freely. She spent a lot of time in the Spokane area. She was even known to “hitch” a ride on the trains.
Charlotte was an extremely strong woman who truly cherished her family and loved ones. She was the person who would do anything to help someone out who needed it. Her wry sense of humor was completely unforgettable and her personality was larger than life.
She was a proud member of the Salish and Kootenai Tribes. She loved going to Pow wows and playing stickgame was one of her favorite things. Whenever you visited her, you could always count on hearing all different types of music playing on her “boom box.”
She will be so deeply missed by more people than can be mentioned; and she loved them all.
Charlotte is survived by her mother, Alice Hewankorn of Hot Springs; her brother, Levi “Jerry” Hewankorn of Pablo; her sister, Rosalie Roberson of Englewood, Florida; and her daughters, Shannon Hewankorn of Polson and Mary Sue Hewankorn of Spokane, Washington; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Charlotte’s father, Charles Hewankorn; her brothers, Laverne and Leland “Jimi” Hewankorn; and her son, Don Collins III, precede her in death.
Services have been held.
