POLSON – The Pirates wrestling squad wrapped up their regular season Saturday night by hosting cross-county rival Ronan Chiefs.

After dropping the first match, the Chiefs stole the momentum by winning the next five matches and took a convincing 52-21 win over the Pirates, a team that once controlled the area’s wrestling scene.

“Polson is always tough,” Chiefs Head Coach Jamie Muir said. “When you come into Polson’s house you got to be able to wrestle your best because it’s a backyard brawl.”

Owen Brown (120), Hunter Peterson (126), Noah Cheff (138), Tyler Houle (160), Justin Mays (182), Wesley Pablo (205) and Ethan Christopher (285) all won by pin for the Chiefs.

“I felt like our guys stepped up to the plate and we wrestled tough,” Muir said.

Kendrick Baker (103), Parker Adler (152) and Kolby Garcia (170) earned pins for the Pirates.

The Chiefs fell to Big Sky 49-13 in a nonconference dual in Missoula on Jan. 24. For the Chiefs, Owen Brown (120) won by pin and both Spencer Stagg (113) and Hunter Peterson (126) won by decision.

On Thursday, the Pirates fell to Columbia Falls 57-12. Both Kendrick Baker (103) and Mateo Quinones (113) won their matches by pin.

The Pirates will head to the Western A divisional tournament next Friday and Saturday in Dillon, while the Chiefs head to Arlee next Saturday for the Western B divisional tournament.

The all-class state tournament follows in Billings Feb. 10-11.
