Editor,
It seems like most of the news I read or hear is bad, sad news. I enjoy good news. Sometimes I wonder if there may be more evil than good going on around our world. I don’t need to go into detail regarding all the bad news because most of the folks in our community are at least casually aware of it.
I’ve written it before and I’ll write it again, we reap what we sow. That is not just my opinion, that adage has been around for millenniums. Adam and Eve discovered that their actions had consequences. That is good news for those who have spent a lifetime doing good. Tragic news for those who have chosen to do evil. The prophet Hosea describes their dilemma as, “they have sown the wind and reaped the whirlwind.” Humans have always had the opportunity to determine whether to do good or to do evil.
Some U.S. citizens have chosen to do good by adopting children. Thousands of foster children have found loving parents and bright futures every year in American homes. There are hundreds of thousands of couples seeking to adopt a child. Supposing our half billion tax dollars which were being misused by Planned Parenthood could instead be used to truly promote women’s health and to facilitate adoption of unwanted babies. That would be good news. We must find a much better solution than abortion for unwanted pregnancies; abortion stops a beating heart; an infant’s life is destroyed. That child’s life could have fulfilled the longing, loving hearts in any of the thousands of American homes where couples are hoping to adopt.
U.S. President and adoptive dad Ronald Reagan said, “Belonging to a family is a natural and vital component of life, and every child deserves to be a member of a loving and nurturing family.” God promises his blessing to those who care for the orphans (foster children).
