Editor,

It’s a tricky situation right now in American politics. What makes it especially ‘tricky’ is that in our election process, with primaries and general elections, it’s assumed the person winning would surely have passed muster on what America would want in a leader.

This would involve passing these suggested seven traits: (1) Demonstrated honesty (2) A true desire and ability to lead effectively. (3) A person held in high regard. (4) A person of integrity and high character. (5) A person with America’s best interests at heart. (6) A person fulfilling the role of America as a ‘leader’ of the free world. (7) A person putting the wellbeing of America above their own.

So, given this seven-point test, it is not difficult to understand the concerns and think back to the “Tricky Dick” fame in presidential politics.
