Esther Schoon
AURORA, COLORADO — Esther Schoon was called home by her Lord and Savior on Feb. 18, 2017, in Aurora, Colorado. Esther was born on July 22, 1922, in Ashly, North Dakota.
She was the third child of Jacob and Recca Kienzle and was raised and educated in Ashly.
Esther moved to Montana with her family in 1940, where she met the love of her life two years later. Esther and Otto Louis Schoon were married on July 23, 1943, and were married for 59 years until his death in June of 2003. To this union were born three children, Betty Abrams of Aurora, Colorado, Larry (Barb) Schoon of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Anthony “Moe” (Linda) Schoon of Pablo.
Esther’s children; sister, Mildred Hamel of Everett, Washington; sister-in-law, Betty Kienzle of Billings; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, survive her.
Esther’s husband; her parents; her brothers, Edwin, Walter and Alvin; her sister, Delores Kienzle, a nephew and a niece precede her in death.
Esther lived for many years in St. Ignatius and worked at the Holy Family Hospital for 31 years. Following Otto’s death, Esther sold the home that she and Otto built in St. Ignatius and went to live with her daughter in Colorado, where she resided until her death.
There will be a graveside service for Esther in St. Ignatius at 1 p.m. on June 10, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Otto.
