Editor,
I agree with Bob McClellan in his latest letter to the editor “America waking up.” There is an awakening happening but it is a second awakening. The first awakening occurred in the American public after witnessing the failed policies of the last eight years. That first awakening resulted in the election of our new president, Donald Trump. I felt hope for our country again listening to his inaugural address when he said he would put America first and would return power to the American people. I was also spiritually uplifted when he brought God back into our national dialogue. Many Americans shared my feelings that day and celebrated.
Mr. McClellan states, “This election has inspired people who are motivated by reason, integrity, American values, compassion, peace, and all manner of healthy politics at home and abroad.” I strongly disagree with his statement. What I’ve witnessed in the protests since Trump became president is the same people that were holding up signs saying, “love trumps hate,” preaching tolerance and peace now aren’t so loving, peaceful or tolerant. We’ve witnessed violence with attacks against Trump supporters, private property being destroyed, and vulgar profanity. Clad in black and wearing masks, paid antifa thugs do the dirty work for those promoting peace. Apparently these positive attributes of character are reserved only for those who share their worldview. This is most certainly not healthy politics and is in stark contrast to the tea party protests following the election of Barack Obama.
Presently the democratic party is at its lowest point in history as it suffered an incredible blow in this last election cycle. If they persist in their hateful rhetoric, moderate leftists will move farther right. Herein lies the second awakening … people are witnessing the blatant hypocrisy of the kumbaya crowd and taking notice. Yes, the whole world is watching.
There is a powerful movement of correction taking place in this country today but it isn’t the one Mr. McClellan believes is happening. We are correcting the course established by the previous administration and we won’t get tired of winning anytime soon.
