SOAP LAKE, WASHINGTON — David Raleigh Knott, Sr. passed into eternal life in his sleep at his home in Soap Lake, Washington, on March 10, 2017. He was 63 years old.
David was born in Everett, Washington, to Hirum and Ada Knott on June 11, 1953. Raised in and around the Everett and Seattle areas, David met and married his first wife, Robin, at the age of 19. They divorced shortly after their marriage and he then met and married his second wife, Jackie, at the age of 20 in 1974. Three children later, in 1986, their marriage ended. David met and married his final dancing partner and his greatest love, Rose, in Sedro Wooley, Washington, in 1988. They were married 28 years until he was called Home. Their marriage saw them through many struggles, joys, relocations and changes. Together they had two more wonderful children. The loving children of their blended families have brought to them the amazing experience of parenthood (and grandparenthood).
A man of many hats, David worked many occupations in his lifetime to support his family: longhaul trucker, carpenter, construction worker, wooden toy maker and mechanic were just some of the many titles he proudly wore.
Over the years, David and Rose became a familiar sight in and around the small communities of Saint Ignatius, Charlo and Polson, Montana (where they raised their family), as they worked, played and provided service for the Amish community and to many people over their years there. David returned to Washington in 2011 to care for his mother and attend to family matters and there he remained until his passing.
David’s parents, Ada and Hirum, precede him in death.
He is survived by his precious wife, Rose Knott of Saint Ignatius, and his children, Randi (Kevin) Eyre of Stanwood, Washington; Deedee (Brian) Bernick of Burlington, Washington; Heidi Uny (Tracy) Niswanger of Arlington, Washington; Linda (Adam) Smith of Ronan; David Knott, Jr. of Missoula; and Talena (Christopher) Sankovic of Missoula. His 17 wonderful grandchildren, that have (along with three precious dogs), brought him a great source of joy these last few years as he struggled with the many health issues that eventually took him to his eternal home, also survive him. Services have been held. A memorial is planned in Washington on June 11 at David’s residence.
