NEWBERG, OREGON — Elda Mattson was born in Columbus, North Dakota, on Aug. 28, 1922, to Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson. She was the youngest of eleven children.
Elda graduated high school in Bowbells, North Dakota, on May 29, 1941.
Elda married Raymond (Ted) Mattson on Nov. 5 1943. They had three children. Alice was born in Kenmare, North Dakota, Ramona was born in Missoula, and Mike was born in St. Ignatius.
The Mattsons moved to Charlo in 1947 and bought a dairy farm. In 1965 they gave up farming and moved to Tigard, Oregon.
In 2002 Elda and Ted moved to Astor House, a retirement community in Newberg, Oregon.
Ted passed away on May 19, 2009. Mike passed on May 31, 2011, Ramona on May 29, 2012. Thank God Alice is still with us today.
In Aug. 2016 Elda moved to Chehalem Health and Rehabilitation where she could get the twenty-four hour care she required. Elda passed on Jan. 10, 2017, at the age of 94.
Elda leaves a daughter, Alice; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Elda lived a memorable life. She will be remembered for her smile and how happy she was visiting and sharing with others.
Memorial services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg, Oregon, on March 25.
