Watercraft check stations open in Pablo, Ravalli

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes took action March 23 to issue a watercraft and trailer closure in response to the potential invasion of mussel populations that were detected in Montana last fall.

Effective immediately all watercraft must be inspected and cleared for launching into any Flathead Reservation water body by a certified boat inspector. All watercraft, trailers, water-based personal equipment must be completely clean, drained and dry on all interior and exterior surfaces before launching into Flathead Reservation water bodies.

A watercraft check station is currently in operation and is located on the Salish Kootenai College campus off Highway 93 next to the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center. Hours of operation are from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

On April 15 the watercraft check station will move from the Pablo site to Ravalli at Highway 93 next to the highway maintenance shop.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will begin operating the inspection station in Pablo at that time.

For more information on mandatory watercraft inspection station sites or hours contact Paula Webster, Tom McDonald or Germaine White at 675-2700.

Ninepipes Museum opens for season

News from Ninepipes Museum

CHARLO — The Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana opened its doors for the 2017 season on Monday, April 3. Featured in the museum this year is a moccasin display. There are 13 pairs of beautiful moccasins dating between 1860 to 1900 and representing nine different tribes of the northwest and western plains.

The museum started the season with a joint fundraiser on Sunday, April 2, with the St. Ignatius Mission Church. The Spring Concert featured master violinist Wai Mizutani and the Valley Voices Community Choir. Approximately 200 people attended and were treated to beautiful music that filled the historic church.

Special events planned at the museum this year include “First Saturday” artists during the months of May through October, and the second annual Cultural Arts Fair on Saturday, July 8. The month of August will be dedicated to celebrating the life of Edgar S. Paxson and his 100th anniversary of arriving in Montana. Family members will be on hand Saturday, Aug. 5, to commemorate the day with stories about the famous artist.

The museum is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Group and school tours are available at discounted prices. Call 644-3435
